Additionally, the weather agency has issued a red alert due to the expected intense rainfall in these states. Light rain is also anticipated to continue across Delhi-NCR throughout the week.Monsoon shifts Southward, intense rainfall expectedAccording to IMD officials, the monsoon has begun shifting southward, with coastal areas of Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, and Konkan Goa expected to receive over 20 cm of rainfall in the upcoming days.Alerts issued for Maharashtra and KeralaIMD has issued a red alert for Raigad and an orange alert for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Pune, Satar, and Kolhapur in Maharashtra. In Kerala, red alerts have been issued for Malappuram, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts, with an orange alert for Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Kozhikode, and Wayanad districts.Impact in Maharashtra and KarnatakaIn Maharashtra, the Kamwari River overflowed in the Bhiwandi area of Thane, causing water to enter homes in coastal areas. Many residents in the Sultania Gali area were displaced due to knee-deep flooding.Meanwhile, the IMD has also issued a red alert for the south interior and coastal areas of Karnataka for July 16. Heavy rains on Monday led to complete submergence of areas in villages such as Araga, Chendia, Iduru, and Toduru.
