IMD issues Red alert for Kerala after massive landslides in Wayanad, several trains cancelled

After massive landslides that have claimed over 41 lives on Tuesday in Kerala’s Wayanad, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warning for the heavy to heavy rains across the state. Reportedly, the incessant rains have caused significant traffic disruptions, resulting in the cancellation of four trains. 

The affected trains are:

• Guruvayur-Thrissur Daily Express
• Thrissur-Guruvayur Daily Express
• Shoranur-Thrissur Daily Express
• Thrissur-Shoranur Daily Express

Additionally, ten trains have had their routes partially altered. The Kannur-Thiruvananthapuram Jan Shatabdi Express will now run only up to Shoranur. Similarly, the Kannur-Alappuzha Intercity Express and the Mangalore Central-Kanyakumari Parasuram Express will also terminate at Shoranur.

Apart from this, Short Termination and short origination of train services have been reported due to water overflow reported between Valathol Nagar and Wadakancherry at KM 10/800-900, in Thiruvananthapuram Division.

The Kottayam-Nilambur Road Express will operate only up to Angamaly, while the Kozhikode-Thiruvananthapuram Jan Shatabdi will depart from Ernakulam. The Kanyakumari-Mangalore Central Parasuram Express will start from Shoranur, and the Nilambur Road-Kottayam Express will begin from Angamaly. The Shoranur-Thiruvananthapuram Venad Express will now commence from Chalakudy, the Alappuzha-Kannur Express will start from Shoranur, and the Palakkad-Tirunelli Express will depart from Aluva.
