IMD issues high wave warning for Kerala, 2 districts on ‘Red Alert’

In the recent update, the Indian Meteorological Department has issued an ‘Orange’ alert for heavy rainfall in districts of Kerela. According to the weather department, people in several districts of the state, which includes Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam, and Kollam in Kerala will witness heavy rains. In addition to this, a red alert for severe rainfall has been issued for the districts of Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Alapuzha, and Idukki.

As per the update, the rain will be witnessed at isolated places in Kerala on May 24 and May 25, accompanied by thunderstorms, gusty winds, and lightening.

The weather department predicts sea incursions and high waves between 0.4 and 3.3 meters along the Kerala coast, extending from Vizhinjam in the south to Kasaragod in the north, through Thursday night.

The IMD issued a "red alert" in five districts of Kerala on Wednesday due to the very heavy rains that pounded the southern state: Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, and Idukki.

Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Malappuram, Kozhikode, and Wayanad districts received a "orange" notice, while the districts of Kannur and Kasaragod received a "yellow" alert.

Meanwhile, given incessant rains, the health department has issued helpline numbers in an effort to strengthen the epidemic prevention activities.
