Operations at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport were briefly thrown into chaos on Tuesday morning following an anonymous bomb threat call.

Police said the call was received around 5:15am, warning of an explosive device on a flight bound for Kolkata scheduled to depart Delhi.

Upon immediate investigation, authorities deemed the threat to be a hoax. Nevertheless, emergency protocols were activated as a precautionary measure to ensure passenger safety.

DCP of IGI Airport Usha Rangnani stated: "The call was found to be bogus. However, necessary safety protocols were followed keeping in view security of passengers."

A case has been registered under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and an investigation is underway to uncover the source of the malicious call.

While the bomb threat caused temporary alarm, airport officials have confirmed that operations are now back to normal. Security remains on high alert and surveillance across the airport premises has been enhanced.

The hoax call triggered a major emergency response and disrupted travel plans for many early morning passengers. Police are tracing the caller in an effort to deter such reckless pranks that squander valuable time and resources.

Authorities have reassured that the safety of passengers and airport staff remains the utmost priority as investigations continue into the fake bomb threat.
