State leader hits back at opposition

The recent statement from the state's head is perceived as a retaliatory move amidst the political fallout surrounding the Chhatarpur incident. Following the demolition of Haji Shahzad Ali's mansion, the primary accused in the Chhatarpur Kotwali stone-pelting case, opposition parties have launched a fierce critique against the BJP government, prompting a counter-response from the state's leadership.

Reaction of opposition

In response to the Chief Minister’s remarks and the demolition incident, opposition figures have condemned the BJP government’s actions. The Congress party submitted a memorandum to the Director General of Police (DGP) of Madhya Pradesh, criticizing the use of demolition as a punitive measure and labeling it as unjust. Congress leaders, including Priyanka Gandhi and Mallikarjun Kharge, have also voiced their disapproval, arguing that such actions undermine the principles of justice and equality.

What happened in Chhatarpur?

A controversy erupted in Maharashtra after Hindu saint Ramgiri Maharaj allegedly made derogatory remarks about Islam during a religious event in Shah Panchale village, Nashik district. In response, the Muslim community in Chhatarpur organized a protest on August 21, which unfortunately turned violent. A group of 300-400 protesters, led by religious leaders, marched to the police station to submit a memorandum demanding action against Ramgiri Maharaj.

However, the situation escalated into a heated argument with police officials, culminating in the mob hurling stones at the police station. Following this incident, the local administration took swift action, demolishing the house of the main accused Shahzad Ali, citing unauthorized construction. The sequence of events has sparked tensions in the region, highlighting the need for peaceful resolution and respect for diverse beliefs.
