After the Supreme Court temporarily halted his conviction in the criminal defamation case linked to his ‘Modi’ surname remarks, Rahul Gandhi addressed the media to celebrate the decision that allows him to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.

“If not today then tomorrow, if not tomorrow then day after tomorrow, truth will always prevail,” Rahul Gandhi told the media at a press conference organised by the Indian National Congress (INC).

“I have clarity in my mind that what I have to do and what is my work. I thank the people who helped us. I also thank the people for their love and support,” he added.

Earlier, Rahul Gandhi took to Twitter to write, “Come what may, my duty remains the same. Protect the idea of India.”

Senior Congress members attend Rahul Gandhi press conference

The press conference event was attended by senior INC members, including President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rajya Sabha member Jairam Ramesh, and MPs Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and Abhishek Manu Singhvi.

“It is a joyous day for us, as it is a win for democracy, constitution and truth. I welcome Supreme Court’s decision, it is an example that justice can be served. It is not just Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s win but the entire country’s. He is a person who fights for truth, national interest, the rights of youth, and the price rise in the country,” Mallikarjun Kharge told reporters.

“Rahul Gandhi was disqualified within 24 hours of the court ruling. Now we are waiting to see how long it takes to reinstate him as MP,” he added.

Congress MP Abhishek Singhvi said, “Phir se chalegi sawaalon ki aandhi, Jab Sansad mein lautenge Rahul Gandhi.” (The storm of questions will rise again, When Rahul Gandhi will return to Parliament.)

“Now we are ready to listen to Rahul Gandhi ji’s loud voice on issues related to the public with great eagerness in the Parliament,” he further said.

Meanwhile, Congress party workers across the country celebrated the Supreme Court’s decision; party workers set off fireworks outside the Congress office in Delhi in celebration.
