After the NEET paper leak controversy that has initiated an outrage among people, UGC-NET on Wednesday cancelled the examination has ignited another row. The Supreme Court on Thursday assured strict action against the people involved in the paper leak.
The UGC-NET exam that has been cancelled by the National Testing Agency (NTA) was conducted in OMR (pen and paper) mode on June 18 in two shifts across different cities of the country, in which almost 9 lakh aspirants appeared. However, after receiving inputs from the National Cyber Crime Threat Analytics Unit of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C) under the Ministry of Home Affairs, the department announced the cancellation of the exam.
I4C has been established under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to deal with cybercrime in the country in a coordinated and comprehensive manner. It is a unit which is for reporting threats about cybercrimes at regular intervals.
The ministry on Thursday announced that the exam that has been cancelled, will be conducted again, for which the information will be shared soon. The matter is now been handed over to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a thorough investigation in the matter.
Meanwhile, while speaking at a press conference, Govind Jaiswal, the Joint Secretary of Education Ministry said, that the exam has been cancelled as the ministry has observed the possibility of malpractice in the exam.
He also assured that the government is committed to ensuring the sanctity of examinations and protecting the interest of students and assured strict action against the individual or organization involved.
Almost 24 lakh aspirants took the NEET exam that was conducted by the National Testing Agency and is under scrutiny for alleged irregularities in the exam. The reports of the paper leak have ignited nationwide protest and triggered demands for re-test.
