New Delhi: Ahead of the upcoming Haryana Assembly elections, senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Anil Vij has publicly staked his claim for the position of Chief Minister. Vij, one of the longest-serving members of the BJP in Haryana, has expressed his desire to lead the state, citing his extensive experience and support from the people as the foundation for his claim.

I am the most senior BJP MLA in Haryana: Anil Vij

Anil Vij, who has represented the Ambala Cantt constituency for six consecutive terms, emphasized his seniority within the party and noted that he had never asked for any position from the BJP before. "I have contested elections six times. I have never asked the party for anything," said Vij. However, he pointed out that this time, he would be staking his claim to the Chief Minister's post due to overwhelming public demand.

"Wherever I go, people ask me, 'You are the most senior, why have you not become the CM?' On the people's demand and my seniority, I will stake my claim to be the Chief Minister this time," Vij asserted. He expressed confidence that if given the opportunity, he would bring significant changes to Haryana. "If the government is formed and I am made Chief Minister, I will change both the fate and the picture of Haryana," he promised.

Decision rests with high command

Despite his strong statements, Vij acknowledged that the ultimate decision lies with the BJP's central leadership. "Whether I become Chief Minister or not is in the hands of the high command," he said, making it clear that the final call would be made by the party’s top brass.

Vij is a BJP candidate from Ambala Cantt, and he previously held the position of Home Minister during the tenure of Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar. He was, however, removed from the cabinet in a recent reshuffle, which saw Nayab Singh Saini taking the oath as the new Chief Minister.

Expressed displeasure over cabinet removal

This is not the first time Anil Vij has voiced his dissatisfaction with the party’s decisions. Following his removal from the cabinet, Vij had publicly expressed his displeasure, remarking that some within the party had made him feel like an "alien."

As Haryana prepares for the Assembly elections on October 5, Vij’s claim for the top post has added a new dimension to the political landscape of the state.
