With the Holi festival resulting in a huge rush in trains, getting a confirmed ticket has become a big problem for ordinary passengers. But instances of railway officials abusing their power to give special favors to their friends have come to light. One such shocking case has recently gone viral, where a Government Railway Police (GRP) constable was caught on camera having a heated argument with a Train Ticket Examiner (TTE).
The incident occurred on March 10 on the New Delhi-Sogaria Express. A GRP constable's wife was reportedly traveling in an AC coach without a ticket. When the TTE tried to stop her from doing so, the constable attempted to put pressure on him. When the TTE refused to give in, the argument turned into a full-blown confrontation, now widely circulated on social media sites.
GRP constable M.K. Meena of New Delhi is seen in the viral video warning the TTE not to record the scene. The constable went to the extent of threatening the railway official with dire consequences and even tried to grab his mobile phone.
Throughout the scuffle, the constable allegedly threatened the TTE, to which the railway official also responded by declaring, "My family also have IPS officers." The constable, in retort, derisively asked, "Then tell them I own this train."
After the circulation of the video, netizens have angrily criticized the incident as it involved corruption and abuse of power in the railway system. The travelers have complained about their difficulties in obtaining tickets while some officials give unauthorized entry to their relatives.
Up to this point, the railway administration has not issued any official communication on the incident. Sources, however, indicate that an investigation will be carried out in the near future to tackle the issue.
