Annamalai (X)
Tamil Nadu: K Annamalai, president of the BJP Tamil Nadu unit, has declared that he is not a candidate for the post. Annamalai said this at a Coimbatore press conference, where he again stated that the BJP is a party that believes in collective leadership and does not believe in internal power struggles.
Annamalai's decision to resign takes place against the background of rumor about a likely alliance between the BJP and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) ². The AIADMK has been reported to have expressed interest in entering into an alliance with the BJP for the 2026 Tamil Nadu state assembly elections but only if Annamalai is ousted as state president.
As a state president, Annamalai was actively involved in enhancing the presence of the BJP in Tamil Nadu. In spite of the party not winning even one seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha election, Annamalai was instrumental in enhancing the presence of the BJP's vote share in the state.
