New Delhi: Sanjay Roy, the prime suspect in the rape and murder of a 31-year-old trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, has denied any involvement in the crime during a polygraph test conducted by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

According to reports cited by India Today, Roy claimed he fled the scene after discovering the body of the trainee doctor. However, the validity of these claims has not been independently verified by Top Indian News.

Polygraph test results

During the polygraph test, Roy was reportedly asked 10 questions by CBI investigators. The test was conducted on August 25 at Kolkata's Presidency Central Jail, where Roy is currently being held. Despite his earlier confession following his arrest on August 10, he has since retracted his statements, maintaining his innocence and alleging that he has been framed.

"I didn't commit the murder. I ran from the seminar hall after seeing the body," Roy told the CBI during the polygraph test, as per reports. However, the test results indicated several deceptive and unconvincing responses. It's important to note that polygraph results are not admissible as evidence in court.

Evidence against Sanjay Roy

Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer with the Kolkata Police, was arrested based on CCTV footage that placed him at the crime scene. Additionally, his Bluetooth headset was discovered inside the seminar hall where the murder took place. Despite this evidence, Roy continues to deny involvement in the crime.

CBI ruling out gang-rape possibility

In a separate development, the CBI has reportedly ruled out the possibility of gang rape in the case, identifying Roy as the sole suspect. Sources told NDTV that the investigation is nearing its conclusion, with the CBI ready to file charges soon. The investigation has so far included over 100 witness statements and 10 polygraph tests.

The CBI has also sent DNA samples to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi for further analysis, with final results expected soon. Additionally, financial irregularities involving Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the principal of RG Kar Medical College at the time of the incident, have been brought to light.
