I challenge Yogi, if he has courage: Owaisi hits at 'identity display' for vendors during Kanwar Yatra

New Delhi: Another row erupted after the Uttar Pradesh government in Muzaffarnagar asked the eateries to display the names of their owners along the Kanwar Yatra route to avoid any confusion among yatris. All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) chief Asaduddin Owaisi condemned the order of the UP police. He said that it is a deliberate attempt of villifying a particular community.

He further stressed that the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has already created tensions which have resulted in major eviction of people from the job and also furter induction of the indviduals belonging to the Muslim community.

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi said, "We condemn it because it is a violation of Article 17 of the Constitution, which talks about untouchability. So the Uttar Pradesh government is promoting untouchability...Secondly, ever since the Uttar Pradesh government has given the order, Muslim employees have been removed from all the shops in Muzaffarnagar...Will you work for only one community? Where is the Constitution? I challenge Yogi Adityanath to issue a written order if he has the courage."

Officials cite 'kawariyas' confusion'

The officials added that the decision had been taken to ensure that there is no confusion among kanwariyas as they abstain themselves from certain diets when they carry River Ganges water with them.

Earlier, in response to the row which was ignited after the Uttar Pradesh police rolled out an order saying that it is mandatory for vendors and seller to stick their names on the setup which they use to sell eatables. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav lashed out at the government saying that how they would differentiate with the names.

Taking it to his X handle, Yadav mentioned, “…and what will be known from the name of the one whose name is Guddu, Munna, Chhotu or Fatte?”
