New Delhi: In a crackdown on drug consumption in Hyderabad's nightlife, late-night raids were conducted at five pubs, including the well-known Quorum Club in Sherlingampally and Babylon in Jubilee Hills. These surprise inspections carried out on Friday night, were executed under the direct orders of Excise Enforcement Director VB Kamalasan Reddy. Authorities tested a total of 33 individuals using specialized drug detection kits to determine whether they had consumed illegal substances.

Urine tests conducted on suspects

As part of the operation, urine samples were collected from those present in the raided pubs and analyzed for traces of drugs. Out of the seven people tested at the Quorum Club, two individuals were found to have consumed drugs. Similarly, at the Babylon pub, two out of the 12 individuals tested positive. The results from these tests have raised concerns about the rising issue of drug abuse within Hyderabad’s popular party circuits.

Identities of the accused revealed

The accused were identified as Chinna Nagesh from Warangal, Northu Ravikumar from Srikakulam, TVS Keshavrao from Moosapet, and Abdul Rahim from Charminar. All four have been detained for further investigation, and their involvement in any larger drug network is being closely scrutinized.

Law enforcement’s coordinated effort

The raids were part of a coordinated effort between multiple law enforcement agencies. Joint Commissioner Qureshi, Assistant Commissioner R Kishan, and Anil Kumar Reddy led the operation, in collaboration with the TG NAB Police and the Excise Police. The crackdown was aimed at addressing the growing drug menace in Hyderabad’s nightlife, which has seen an uptick in illegal activities in recent months.

Videos, photos released as evidence

As part of their transparency efforts, the Excise Department has since released videos and photographs documenting the raids.
