Hyderabad petrol pump fire: A shocking incident at a petrol station in Nacharam saw a man recklessly ignite a lighter while fuel was being dispensed, endangering multiple lives. Two men, identified as Chiran and Arun from Bihar, have been taken into custody in connection with the incident, according to Nacharam police.
The incident occurred around 7 p.m. on Saturday when Chiran, visibly intoxicated, arrived at the petrol station with a lighter in hand. Arun, an employee at the station, noticed Chiran’s actions and, in a dangerous moment of bravado, reportedly dared him to “do it if he had the guts.” Provoked, Chiran ignited the lighter, triggering a burst of flames as fuel was being dispensed.

A woman and her child, nearby at the time, recoiled in fear as flames erupted around them. Chiran, seemingly unfazed, attempted to kick at the fire, as though batting away a soccer ball. Luckily, the woman and her child managed to escape unharmed.
Inspector G. Rudvir Kumar of Nacharam Police reported that both men were intoxicated, with Chiran confirmed to be drunk. The police quickly detained the two, charging them with “mischief by fire and explosives.” They are set to be presented in court.
“This reckless act not only jeopardized lives but also posed the risk of a catastrophic explosion in this busy, high-traffic area,” stated Inspector Kumar.
The question arises: Should these men face graver charges, such as attempted murder?
