N Biren Singh, the Chief Minister of the violence-hit Manipur, is scheduled to meet with the state’s Governor Anusuiya Uikey at 3 PM, triggering speculations that he will tender his resignation.
As a result, a large number of women have gathered around Imphal to prevent the Chief Minister from tendering his resignation. A large number of women gathered at the Nupi Lal Complex on Friday, which is about a hundred metres away from the chief minister’s secretariat and Raj Bhavan.
The protesters shouted slogans and urged the under-fire leader to not resign, and instead take control of the situation in Manipur.
Kshetrimayum Shanti, a women leader protesting at the Nupi Lal complex, said, “At this critical juncture, the Biren Singh government should stand firm and crack down on troublemakers.”

Subhead: Fresh violence in Manipur increases death toll by 3
The news of Biren Singh’s resignation comes amid fresh violence in the Himalayan state, where a gunfire exchange between rioters and security forces in the Kangpokpi district on Thursday claimed three more lives.
According to the Indian Army, armed rioters had started unprovoked firing at Haraothel village, and the security forces had to reply ‘in a calibrated manner’ to control the situation.
While taking possession of the bodies of the alleged rioters, community members started a procession to the Chief Minister’s residence. The protesters, mainly women, dared the police to arrest them.
The police tried to stop the protesters from marching to Biren Singh’s place, and the situation turned violent with tyres being burned in the middle of the street. The police had to fire tear gas shells and resort to baton charge to control the mob.
