Humiliating and insulting people is a sign of weakness: RaGa stands up for Smriti Irani

BJP's Smriti Irani emerged victorious in the Lok Sabha elections 2019 against Rahul Gandhi from Amethi. However, she lost to Congress candidate Kishor Lal Sharma by a big margin of 1.65 lakh votes in the Lok Sabha elections in 2024.

New Delhi: Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi urged people to "refrain from using derogatory language and being nasty" for former Union Minister Smriti Irani and other leaders over winning or losing elections. This comes a month after the result of the Lok Sabha election results were declared. 

In his post on microblogging platform X, he wrote, "Winning and losing happen in life. I urge everyone to refrain from using derogatory language and being nasty towards Smt. Smriti Irani or any other leader for that matter."

Furthermore, he added, "Humiliating and insulting people is a sign of weakness, not strength."

Victory against RaGa in LS 2019 polls

Notably, BJP's Smriti Irani emerged victorious in the Lok Sabha elections 2019 against Rahul Gandhi from Amethi. However, she lost to Congress candidate Kishor Lal Sharma by a big margin of 1.65 lakh votes in the Lok Sabha elections in 2024.

I will continue to be in the service: Smriti Irani

After her humiliating defeat in the elections, Smriti Irani said, "I express my gratitude to all the BJP party workers and supporters, those who have worked in the service of the constituency and the party with utmost dedication and fidelity."

Furthermore, she added, "Today, I am grateful to PM Narendra Modi and CM Yogi Adityanath that their governments have completed the pending works of 30 years in just 5 years. I congratulate those who win. I will continue to be in the service of the people of Amethi."

Rahul Gandhi's landslide victory

In Lok Sabha elections 2024, Rahul Gandhi defeated BJP's Dinesh Pratap Yadav from Raebareli, who held ministerial positions in Yogi Adityanath's cabinet in Uttar Pradesh. He won by a huge margin of over 3 lakh votes.
