New Delhi: Maharashtra Police arrested three individuals for posing with illegal weapons in their WhatsApp display pictures (DPs). According to the Arms Act, both possessing illegal firearms and publicly displaying them is a criminal offense. This case has highlighted how even social media activity can lead to serious legal consequences.

The incident occurred in Dharashiv district, where the local police arrested three men after noticing their WhatsApp DPs, which featured them posing stylishly with firearms. A vigilant citizen reported these profiles to the authorities, prompting an investigation. Upon being taken into custody, the accused were questioned about the weapons and were unable to provide any legal documentation for the firearms in the photos.

Without valid permits for the weapons, they were charged with possessing and displaying illegal firearms. The Paranda police station has registered a case against the three men, identified as Shahji Mali, Rishikesh Gaikwad, and Omkar Sutar, all residents of Paranda town.

Possession of illegal pistol

During the investigation, Shahji Mali was found in possession of an illegal pistol, leading to his immediate arrest. Subsequent searches of the other two accused also resulted in the recovery of illegal firearms. The arrests underscore the serious legal risks associated with flaunting illegal weapons on social media platforms.
