Crime News: In a town where the police are meant to be the shield of safety, an unsettling incident emerged from Dhanbad, Jharkhand. It raised serious questions about the guardians of law turning into threats themselves. Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mahendra Kumar, stationed at a local police station, committed such an egregious act that it sent shockwaves throughout the community.

Age and rank seemed to hold no restraint for 55-year-old ASI Mahendra Kumar as he harbored inappropriate intentions towards a 30-year-old married woman. Relentlessly, he bombarded her with audio and video calls, persistently pressuring her to meet him under false pretexts, even expressing desires for physical intimacy.

Adding to the horror, the ASI resorted to coercion and threats, warning the woman of dire consequences if she refused to comply. He brazenly threatened to fabricate charges against her husband, ensuring his incarceration. Initially paralyzed by fear, the woman eventually found the courage to record the ASI's illicit demands.

How did he get in touch with woman?

The saga unfolded when Mahendra Singh, a man from Jharia, lodged a complaint against the woman's husband for not vacating a rented shop on time. ASI Mahendra Kumar, assigned to investigate, obtained the woman's mobile number during the process. After that her husband visited the police station, and he faced unjust detention, allegedly beaten, and falsely charged.

Recordings as evidence

Armed with over 20 call recordings documenting the ASI's misconduct, the woman and her husband took decisive action. They approached the Superintendent of Police (SSP), laying bare the egregious behavior of the ASI and lodging a formal complaint.

What did SSP say?

Responding promptly, the SSP ordered an inquiry into the matter. Denying any wrongdoing, the ASI attempted to deflect blame, accusing the woman's husband of criminal activities. However, the police are diligently investigating the case, scrutinizing the conflicting accounts of both parties.

"This is a grave matter," asserts HP Janardhanan, SSP. "An investigation by the City SP has been initiated, and appropriate action, including suspension, will be taken."
