Horror in Uttar Pradesh: Minor girl abducted, raped for months; police capture accused

In a distressing incident unfolding in Uttar Pradesh's Ballia district, a 16-year-old girl was reportedly abducted from near her residence and subjected to months of rape, as revealed by authorities on Sunday.

The accused, identified as Vishesh Tiwari alias Raja and hailing from a village under the Sahatwar Police Station, allegedly kidnapped the girl on February 7, as detailed by the police.

Legal action taken against accused

Following the girl's mother's complaint, the police registered a case against Tiwari under sections 363 (kidnapping) and 366 (kidnapping, abducting, or inducing a woman to compel her marriage) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Superintendent of Police Dev Ranjan Verma confirmed Tiwari's arrest on Sunday near his residence, leading to the girl's rescue.

Traumatic testimony

In her statement, the victim recounted enduring rape at the hands of Tiwari for approximately two and a half months, as disclosed by the SP.

Subsequently, based on the survivor's testimony, authorities included section 376 (rape) of the IPC and relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act in the case, as reported by the news agency.

Similar offence in Navi Mumbai

Meanwhile, in a separate incident in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra, police arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly raping a seven-year-old girl from his neighborhood, an official stated on Sunday.

The accused and the victim, both residing in the same building in the Ulwe area, were familiar neighbors. The incident transpired when the victim visited the accused's residence for playtime on Saturday evening, leading to the alleged assault. 

Following the incident on Saturday, the girl disclosed the ordeal to her mother. Subsequently, the victim's parents lodged a formal police complaint, leading to the apprehension of the accused, as confirmed by the official.

The accused was charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code, including 376 (rape), 376(2)(j)(n) (rape of a female under 12 years of age or a woman incapable of giving consent), 376AB (rape of a female under 12 years of age), and 506 (criminal intimidation). Additionally, provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act were invoked by the police.
