Bhopal/Gwalior: In a shocking incident, a man in Gwalior shot dead his 18-year-old daughter on Tuesday night, a day before she was to get married. The dispute over the daughter's choice of partner was reportedly the reason for the tragedy. Authorities confirmed the same on Wednesday.
The accused in the case was Mahesh Gurjar, who had killed his daughter Tanu. The police said that Mahesh had taken this extreme step after he was unable to convince his daughter to marry the man chosen by her family, and she told him that she wanted to marry Bheem Mawai, a resident of Bhind.
According to Nagendra Sikarwar, SP in Gwalior, Tanu had recorded a video days before her death, alleging that her family was forcing her into an arranged marriage. In the video, she also accused them of subjecting her to daily physical abuse. She shared the recording with a few individuals, exposing her plight.
On the night of the crime, Mahesh and his nephew, Rahul Gurjar, had a confrontation with Tanu at their Adarsh Colony residence. Arguing, Mahesh shot his daughter three times in the face, killing her on the spot. Rahul reportedly ran from the house immediately after the alleged incident, police added.
Mahesh surrendered to the police within a few hours of the murder. He is reported to have said nothing in regard to his guilt. An FIR has been filed against him under Section 302 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The police are on a manhunt for Rahul, who has gone absconding.
SP Sikarwar said that further investigation is going on to collect more information about the case. Authorities are also probing the incidents which led to this tragic incident, including the video allegations of Tanu and the family's activities.
