Days after a charge sheet was filed against DRDO (Defence Research and Development Organisation) scientist Pradeep Kurulkar, was attacked by a Pakistani Intelligence Operative and revealed about Indian missile systems and defence projects, another incident of honeytrap has been reported in Gujrat’s Bhuj. A contractual employee working for the Border Security Force (BSF) was arrested for allegedly sharing sensitive and confidential information with a female Pakistani spy, said the officials.

Who is Nilesh Balia?

The accused, identified as Nilesh Balia 12th graduate, was working as a peon in the electrical department office of the Central Public Works Department at the BSF headquarters at Bhuj for the last five years, the officials said.

The state Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) arrested him on Friday, now it would be producing him before a court and seeking his custody, a senior official said.

Honeytrap conspiracy of Pak Spy

ATS’ Superintendent of Police, Sunil Joshi said that the accused, Balia and the Pakistani agent came in contact in January 2023 and shared confidential information regarding the electrification work in the under-construction and existing BSF buildings and also some documents related to civil departments with her.

Speaking to the media, Mr Joshi said that the duo contacted each other through WhatsApp. She ‘honey-trapped’ him and persuaded him to share sensitive information for money, he added.

According to the investigation, the agent was identified as ‘Aditi Tiwari’ and claimed to be working in a private firm. She needed the information for her job and he would be paid for it, she told Balia.

For every piece of information, Balia was paid

As part of the ‘love affair,’ the accused, who told the woman that he was a computer operator, shared sensitive information with her while accepting money for it, the SP said.

Also, Balia allegedly paid ₹38,800 through UPI transactions.

Further, the official said that the ATS will analyse his phone and bank accounts and probe who else he had been in contact with.

After getting a tip-off about his activities, the ATS kept him under watch and analysed his phone records and bank accounts before calling him in for questioning.

The accused has been charged under Indian Penal Code sections 121-A (conspiracy to commit offences punishable by section 121 related to waging war against the Government of India), 123 (concealing with intent to facilitate design to wage war), and 120-B (criminal conspiracy) besides the Official Secrets Act.
