In response to the problems caused by undocumented immigrants from Bangladesh, BJP MP Nishikant Dubey on Thursday called for the declaration of union territory over portions of West Bengal and Jharkhand. He also called for the establishment of an NRC modeled after Assam. Nishikant Dubey asserted that Hindus would vanish from these areas if action was not taken to halt this unlawful migration.

Reorganization of Territory

Bringing up the matter during Zero Hour in the Lok Sabha, Dubey asserted that the influx of individuals from Bangladesh was to blame for the fall in the Adivasi population in Jharkhand's Santhal Parganas area. He insisted on the union territory status being granted to the Santhal Parganas, Araria, Kishanganj, Katihar, Murshidabad, and Malda.

"There are 100 tribal 'mukhiya' in our area but their husbands are Muslims...Riots broke out in Pakur's Taranagar-Ilami and Dagapara because people from Malda and Murshidabad were ousting our people and Hindu villages were going empty. This is a serious matter," said Dubey.

The reorganization has also stirred emotions among local communities, which feel a deep connection to their land and cultural heritage. Residents of the affected areas have expressed their concerns about the potential disruption to their way of life and the loss of their cultural identity. Protests and demonstrations have been reported in several towns and villages, with community leaders demanding greater transparency and participation in the decision-making process.

The regions in question have a rich history and a complex socio-cultural landscape. The area has seen various administrative changes over the years, with shifting boundaries and evolving identities. The current reorganization effort is seen by many as another chapter in this ongoing saga, raising questions about the balance between administrative efficiency and cultural preservation.

Administrative Efficiency vs. Cultural Preservation

Proponents of the reorganization argue that it will lead to more efficient administration and better delivery of public services. They highlight issues such as better resource allocation, improved infrastructure, and enhanced local governance as key benefits. However, critics contend that the move prioritizes administrative convenience over the preservation of cultural and historical identities.
