New Delhi: Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai has called for a thorough investigation into the recent allegations made by US-based Hindenburg Research against SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch. While Annamalai criticized Hindenburg for previously making baseless claims, he emphasized that the government should still probe the latest accusations without preconceived notions.

Concerns over Hindenburg’s intentions

Speaking to reporters, Annamalai accused Hindenburg of creating panic among investors to profit from market turmoil. “Hindenburg is not a journalist or an NGO but a short selling agent of shares,” Annamalai said, highlighting their strategy of releasing alarming reports to benefit from the ensuing market crisis. He acknowledged that although the Supreme Court had previously dismissed similar claims by Hindenburg, the current allegations should not be ignored.

Allegations against SEBI Chief

The latest Hindenburg report accuses SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch of having interests in offshore entities allegedly linked to the Adani Group, a claim both she and her husband have denied as baseless. Addressing these accusations, Annamalai stated, “If there is a charge against SEBI officials, let’s investigate that too. A responsible government will definitely probe it.”

Possible conspiracy against India

Annamalai also suggested that this controversy could be part of a larger international conspiracy aimed at hindering India’s growth. “A strong India is a threat to many countries,” he said, linking the Hindenburg report to efforts by foreign entities to destabilize India’s progress on the global stage. Despite questioning Hindenburg’s credibility, Annamalai maintained that any charges against SEBI officials must be thoroughly investigated to uphold transparency and accountability.
