The controversy surrounding allegations made by Swati Maliwal against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's aide, Bibhav Kumar, has taken a sharp turn. The situation intensified on Friday afternoon when a police team, accompanied by forensic analysts, arrived at the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader's residence, the site of the alleged assault.

Amidst growing scrutiny, the police's focus is on collecting crucial evidence to unravel the truth behind the incident. This includes retrieving CCTV footage from the living room, where Ms Maliwal claims to have been subjected to physical violence. The investigation aims to shed light on the alleged assault, which reportedly involved Ms Maliwal being slapped multiple times and kicked in the chest.

Witness testimonies

In addition to analyzing surveillance footage, the police are set to gather witness testimonies to piece together the events leading up to the altercation. This includes interviewing members of Arvind Kejriwal's security team, who were reportedly involved in a heated argument captured in blurry mobile phone footage leaked online earlier in the day.

Last night, a police case was registered against Kumar based on the statement provided by Maliwal, recorded just hours earlier. Bibhav Kumar is facing charges of assault and criminal intimidation.

Moreover, the National Commission for Women issued a notice to Kumar to appear this morning, which he failed to do. A second summons has now been issued.

What is Swati Maliwal's response?

In her first public response to the controversy, Maliwal called for action against those responsible for the alleged attack and expressed her struggles over the past few days. She also criticized critics who suggested that her claims were orchestrated by the opposing party, believed to be the BJP. The BJP has intensified its criticism of Mr. Kejriwal and the AAP in light of the upcoming Delhi elections, accusing them of being "anti-women".
