Wrestling Federation Chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh has been charged with sexual harassment, according to top wrestlers Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, and Bajrang Punia. They have accused Singh of harassing them sexually.

Wrestlers informed that now on, they will fight in court rather than on the streets. Also, Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik announced break from social media.

Malik took to Twitter on Sunday to state that the “Battle will now be fought in court and not on roads till justice is delivered.”

Identical tweets were posted by Vinesh Phogat and Sakshi Malik yesterday in which they said that the government has fulfilled its promise of filing a chargesheet against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

“As per the talks held on June 7, the government has implemented our demands. On June 15, the Delhi Police submitted before the court the chargesheet after conducting a probe into allegations of sexual harassment (against former WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh), based on an FIR filed by six women wrestlers. Now, the fight will continue in court and not on roads till justice is delivered,” the tweet posted by the three top wrestlers read.

The wrestlers also added that they will now wait for the fresh WFI elections which are scheduled to take place on July 11, as promised by the government. The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) informed that WFI elections have been postponed from July 6 to July 11.

“The process for fresh Wrestling Federation of India election has begun. The polls are scheduled to be held on July 11 as promised by the government. We will wait for the implementation of the promise,” the wrestlers said.

Since the beginning of this year, Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, and Bajrang Punia have been leading demonstrations against Singh for alleged sexual harassment.

The wrestlers’ protest was put on hold till June 15 following their evacuation from their Jantar Mantar protest location on May 28 after receiving assurances from Union Sports Minister Anurag Thakur that a chargesheet would be filed against the BJP MP Singh.

The WFI executive committee will be chosen through voting. According to a letter from the IOA, the candidates for the positions of president, senior vice-president, four vice presidents, secretary general, treasurer, joint secretary, and five executive member positions will be chosen.

Reportedly, the last date to submit the nominations for the election is June 25 by 5 pm. Notably, two nominations from each state/ Union Territory will be made.
