According to the official statement, over the past ten years, medical tourism has brought in $7,400 million for India. Officials predict that the amount will increase to $43,500 million over the next ten years.

As per officials of BIMSTEC Health Forum, information was arranged by the Indian Chamber of Commerce, that the health sector in India has experienced several private investments over the previous five years. The inclusion of mental health within general health, the emphasis on universal health care, telemedicine, information sharing, the interchange of human capital, and collaboration opportunities were some of the topics covered by the delegates.

“Because BIMSTEC nations are sensitive to climate change, coordination between the commercial and public healthcare sectors, as well as the government, is required to effect good change while keeping the environment in mind,” an official said.

The officials also confirmed that cooperation with the Thai government has also been offered to adopt “Swastha Sathi” facilities (the West Bengal government’s healthcare programme) and develop a progressive medical insurance plan. A regional association called the Bay of Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation (BIMSTEC) was founded in 1997.

With a combined population of more than 1.68 billion, the region has a GDP of over 2.88 trillion US dollars.
