The Lok Sabha witnessed a dramatic incident on December 13, 2023 when two individuals jumped from the public gallery into the chamber, carrying tear gas canisters. This caused a commotion and led to the adjournment of the House. This is not the first time that the security of the Lok Sabha has been breached. Here are some notable Parliament security breaches which shook India. 

1. December 13, 2023

Delhi Police registers case under UAPA to probe Parliament security breach,  Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act

Two men, carrying smoke canisters, jumped from the visitors' gallery and ran into the Lok Sabha chamber. They sprayed yellow smoke and shouted slogans against dictatorship ("tanashahi nahi chalegi"). This incident occurred on the 22nd anniversary of the 2001 Parliament attack, highlighting the gravity of the security lapse.

2. December 10, 2015

Farmers' Protests: An Opportune Moment to Review the Development Model of  Land Grabbing

A group of farmers protesting against the Land Acquisition Bill managed to break through security cordons and enter the Parliament complex. They breached the security barriers and climbed the walls, demanding immediate withdrawal of the controversial bill.

 An intruder carrying pepper spray managed to enter the Lok Sabha chamber and disrupt proceedings. He shouted slogans against the government and sprayed pepper spray, forcing the adjournment of the House.

4. December 13, 2001

A visitor calling himself as Prem Pal Singh, son of Shri Balaji Lal jumped from the Visitors' Gallery and attempted to shout slogans. The man was immediately taken into custody by security officers, who interrogated him.
