The horrific stampede that has claimed more than 121 lives and injured several in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras has shocked the nation. The pictures and videos that surfaced on social media expose the reality of arrangements made at public events.

Overcrowding one of the reasons

According to the media sources, thousands of devotees had gathered for the program of Bhole Baba, popularly known as Narayan Sakaar Hari. They said that the number of people present at the venue was more than the permissible limit of the administration, which led to a stampede during Bhole Baba's "Satsang".

Eyewitnesses of the Hathras incident said that the crowd was so huge that people kept falling and people died within no time.

According to people, devotees rushed to collect the sacred soil from around Bhole Baba's feet, after which people began to stumble and fell into a ditch, leading one upon another resulting in the tragic deaths and injuries of many attendees.

Devotees from Hathras, Etah and Kasganj, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Uttarakhand had also come to attend the Satsang. Those who lost their lives include children, men and women.

In the videos, hundreds of people were running away carrying their loved ones on their shoulders and feeling helpless. In the absence of ambulances, the dead and the injured were loaded into private vehicles.
