New Delhi: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a "yellow alert" for four districts in Telangana—Jayashankar Bhupalapalle, Komaram Bheem, Mancherial, and Mulugu warning of heavy rain on September 4. Additionally, an "orange alert" has been issued for the NTR and Krishna districts in Andhra Pradesh. According to the meteorological center in Hyderabad, heavy rain is expected to persist in parts of Telangana until September 7.

Governer's response to weather

In response to the severe weather, the Andhra Pradesh government declared a holiday for schools and colleges in the NTR district on September 4. The IMD reported a cyclonic circulation over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and nearby areas, which could lead to the formation of a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal around September 5. According to Telangana Weatherman.

The torrential rains have claimed 35 lives across Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, with widespread damage to infrastructure, including roads and railways. Floodwaters have inundated vast agricultural lands, and residents are struggling to access basic necessities. As floodwaters begin to recede, state governments are ramping up relief efforts. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy visited affected areas to assess the damage.

Relief operations underway

Union Minister G Kishan Reddy confirmed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have assured Telangana's Chief Minister of all necessary support. Meanwhile, the Indian Air Force is actively engaged in relief operations in flood-hit areas of Andhra Pradesh, with helicopters delivering essential supplies to stranded residents.

Criticism has also emerged, with Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan blaming the previous YSRCP government for neglecting smaller irrigation projects, exacerbating the flood impact. In response to the crisis, several prominent figures, including actors N Balakrishna and Mahesh Babu, have pledged significant donations to aid flood relief efforts in both states.
