A shocking case has emerged from Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, where a man allegedly committed suicide after being bullied by his wife's suspected lover. The victim, 35-year-old Rajendra Pal, was a contractual bank worker. His family lodged a case against his wife and her suspected lover on charges of abetment of suicide.
The case was reported at the Navadiya Deh Jabti region of the Bithri police station. As per Sher Singh, the victim's brother, Rajendra was deeply upset due to his wife Suman's suspected extramarital relationship with Bhanu Pratap, alias Pintu Yadav. Both Rajendra and Suman had been married for 12 years, but due to Suman's relationship with Bhanu Pratap, their marriage had been suffering immensely.
On Sunday, Rajendra was reportedly called to Bhanu's residence and threatened by him. Bhanu told him that Suman no longer wished to be with him and asked him to leave her. That evening, at midnight, Rajendra took poison at home when the family members were asleep. He died soon after.
Inspector Abhishek Singh has confirmed the registration of a case and an ongoing investigation. The police have prepared Rajendra's body for post-mortem examination and briefed his family on the process. Locals have meanwhile reacted angrily to the incident and are calling for severe action against the perpetrators.
In another tragic incident from Fatehpur's Asothar region, a young couple tried to commit suicide by taking poison owing to family opposition to the relationship. The man, named Saurabh Sahu, succumbed to injuries on the spot, while the woman is being treated in a hospital.
