Central government sought time, Supreme Court deferred interim stay order currently postponed

Supreme Court considered the issuance of interim order during the hearing on the petitions filed against the Waqf (Amendment) Act on Wednesday, but the decision was currently deferred due to additional time from the central government. Now the next hearing of the case will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, in which the interim relief can be decided after hearing the arguments of all the parties.

National News: The Supreme Court considered the issuance of interim order during the hearing on the petitions filed against the Waqf (Amendment) Act on Wednesday, but the decision was currently deferred due to additional time from the central government. Now the next hearing of the case will be held at 2 pm on Thursday, in which the interim relief can be decided after hearing the arguments of all the parties. During the sanction, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta demanded more time from the court to the court, which the court accepted and deferred the order to issue the order. The Supreme Court on Wednesday heard the petitions challenging the Waqf Amendment Act 2025. The court considered an interim stay on some provisions, but no order was issued by the central government as sought of additional time.

The court asked the Center many important questions

During the hearing, the court questioned the Central Government about the Waqf 'Bio User' practice. The court said that many mosques built during 14th to 16th centuries will not have ownership documents, so on what basis will their registration be done?

What did the Solicitor General say?

Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who appeared on behalf of the Center, argued that if a land is being investigated by the collector, the land is not completely used - no party is benefited until the decision comes.

He urged the court to listen to the arguments of all the parties before giving the interim order. The court accepted the demand and adjourned the hearing till Thursday.

Supreme Court expressed concern over violence

During the hearing, the court expressed concern over the violent protests in various parts of the country against the Waqf law. The court clarified that democratic opposition is allowed, but violence cannot be accepted under any circumstances.
