New Delhi: Buying a home is a significant milestone for many, often representing the culmination of years of hard work and savings. For those purchasing a home in a posh area like Noida, the expectations are even higher. However, the reality can sometimes fall short of these expectations. This is an unfortunate situation for the residents of Supertech ORB Society in Sector 74, Noida, who are grappling with serious water issues.

Ongoing Water Crisis

Residents of Supertech ORB Society have been facing a persistent water crisis. When India Daily visited for a ground report, locals shared their grievances. One resident, who has been living there for about 1.5 years, described the ongoing struggle for clean drinking water. The builder, Supertech, has cited a lack of funds as the reason for the inadequate water supply. The Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) levels in the water are above 2000, making it unsuitable even for Reverse Osmosis (RO) treatment. RO service providers have refused maintenance due to the high TDS levels.

Health Risks and Inadequate Security

The poor water quality poses significant health risks. Dr. Ashok Jhingan, a local health expert, warned that consuming water with such high TDS levels can lead to kidney stones, dental discoloration, bone weakness, and even heart problems. Another resident highlighted security issues in the society, noting that many people are forced to buy water from outside. Despite paying a high price for their homes, they feel cheated by the builder.

An official from the local authority pointed out that the builder is responsible for the high TDS levels. The builder had taken 535 water connections, while the actual number of residents exceeds 4000. The maintenance department of Supertech allegedly mixes groundwater with the supply from the authority, further exacerbating the problem. Prince, the maintenance manager, stated that they distribute all the water they receive, emphasizing that their role is limited to maintenance.

Basic Amenities Still a Dream

Residents continue to struggle for basic amenities despite living in a supposedly posh housing society. The issue has reached the District Magistrate (DM), who imposed a fine of 1.243 million INR on Supertech. Locals accuse the builder of water theft, alleging that groundwater is mixed with the supply from the authority. There is hope that the Noida Authority will take action soon. The situation at Supertech ORB Society in Sector 74, Noida, highlights the severe impact of inadequate basic amenities on residents. As they continue to fight for clean water and better living conditions, this case serves as a reminder of the importance of holding builders accountable for their promises and ensuring proper maintenance of housing societies.
