Anil Deshmukh, the former home minister of Maharashtra and leader of the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar), claimed on Wednesday that he was asked to provide affidavits against key members of the Maha Vikas Aghadi government, including chief minister Uddhav Thackeray, by an ‘intermediary’ of BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis. He also accused Fadnavis of asking him to write four affidavits against Uddhav Thackeray, Aaditya Thackeray, Ajit Pawar and Anil Parab.

What is the revelation all about?

The Sharad Pawar camp has made an explosive claim involving an affidavit against Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. They allege that Fadnavis has made objectionable and misleading statements in his affidavit, which has sparked a political controversy. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), however, has dismissed these claims as baseless and politically motivated.

The controversy centers around accusations from the Sharad Pawar-led Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) faction, which asserts that Fadnavis's affidavit contains false information. This has led to calls for a thorough investigation and has heightened tensions between the NCP and BJP in Maharashtra's political landscape.

However, while addressing a press conference on Thursday, Dekhmukh said, “I have levelled allegations against Devendra Fadnavis that pressure was put on me to speak against Uddhav Thackeray, Aditya Thackeray and Ajit Pawar. I have video recording for the same and will reveal them if asked.”

Meanwhile, UBT, Sena leader Sanjay Raut, backed the former Maharashtra Home Minister and said that Deshmukh was sent to jail as a part of controversy and pressure was put on him to implicate Uddhav Thackeray, Sharad Pawar and Aditya Thackeray.
Deshmukh also alleged that the ED and CBI were sent after him because he decided not to make any false allegations.

The BJP, on its part, has labelled the allegations as a desperate attempt by the NCP to tarnish Fadnavis's reputation and has defended him against the charges. The situation is developing, with both parties engaging in a war of words over the issue.
