New Delhi: A disturbing video that surfaced on social media shows a Dalit high school student being assaulted and forced to chant "Jai Shree Ram" by a group of students in KanpurтАЩs Sen Paschim Para. The incident took place outside an inter-college on Friday afternoon. The group of over half a dozen students targeted the victim for refusing to chant the slogan and shared the recorded footage online, which quickly went viral.

Attack over social media posts

The victim, who follows Buddhism, revealed that he regularly shared posts about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and other Buddhist leaders on social media using his brotherтАЩs phone. He believes his online activity was the cause of the attack, as the aggressors objected to his posts. On his way home after school, the group confronted him, hurling caste-based slurs before beating him for refusing to chant "Jai Shree Ram."

Denial from accused students

The accused, also students, claim they only told the boy to stop posting against Sanatan Dharma (Hinduism) and deny using violence. However, the video clearly shows the victim being physically assaulted and coerced into chanting the religious slogan, undermining their defense. The victim reported the incident to the police on Sunday, accompanied by his family. Authorities confirmed that both the victim and the accused are minors. A case has been registered, and the police have assured that appropriate action will be taken after further investigation.
