Haryana News: In a strategic move to fortify its position in the Haryana Assembly, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has successfully garnered the support of three Independent MLAs, including the country’s wealthiest woman, Savitri Jindal. Following a meeting with Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Deb, Jindal expressed her willingness to back the BJP, significantly bolstering their numbers in the state assembly.

Current assembly dynamics

With Jindal’s support, the BJP's strength has increased to 51 in the 90-member assembly, surpassing the majority threshold of 46 seats. The BJP had initially secured 48 seats in the recent elections, leaving them with a tenuous margin. While the Congress party secured 37 seats, they have raised concerns over alleged irregularities in the counting process and have refused to acknowledge the election results.

Savitri Jindal, who previously served in Bhupinder Hooda's government in 2013, has a storied political background, having contested as an Independent candidate in the Hisar constituency against the BJP's Kamal Gupta, following her departure from the Congress party earlier this year. Jindal's late husband, industrialist OP Jindal, previously represented this stronghold.

Additional independent support

Earlier today, Independent MLAs Devender Kadyan and Rajesh Joon also joined the BJP in a formal gathering led by Dharmendra Pradhan and state BJP chief Mohan Lal Badoli. This consolidation of support not only strengthens the BJP's assembly presence but also sets the stage for potential political maneuvering in the upcoming legislative sessions.
