Haryana bus accident: Why school operating on Eid | Top 5 developments so far...

In the school bus accident, six children were killed and around 20 injured as their school bus crashed into a tree in Haryana's Mahendragarh on Thursday. The accident happened when the students from Class 4 to 10 were heading to the GL Public School. So, here are top 5 developments till now. 

  1. The government has constituted a four-member government-appointed panel to investigate the bus accident that took place in Mahendragarh district of Haryana. Parents and locals are questioning why the school remained open on Eid, a public holiday. 

  2. The principal of the school and three others have been arrested in connection with the incident. The bus driver, who allegedly jumped out of the bus just before the accident has also been taken into custody, along with the secretary of the school. 

  3. It has been confirmed that the bus driver was drunk at the time of the accident. State Education Minister Seema Trikha inquired about the health of the injured students in the hospitals. She said that a show cause notice has been sent to the private school asking how it was open despite it being a holiday on the occasion of Eid.

  4. The Education Department has called a meeting on Friday to discuss the vehicle safety policy. Additional Chief Secretary of the Education Department will hold a meeting through video conference at 3 pm. This will include many district education officers, fundamental education officers and all the block education officers of the state. It is understood that during the meeting, strict instructions will be given to tighten the government guidelines.

  5. The bus was from the school and documents showed that the fitness certificate of the bus had expired six years ago, in 2018. In this regard, a state road transport official has been suspended.
