Haridwar: Police arrest 10 women for alleged harlotry

Earlier, local traders repeatedly reported that women involved in prostitution activities began to gather near the railway station and bus stand at night. Despite strict action, many women fled upon sighting the police, while ten were successfully apprehended and escorted to the police station.

Late on Sunday night, the City police in Haridwar initiated a campaign targeting women engaged in illegal activities around the railway station and bus stand area. The crackdown resulted in the arrest of ten women on charges related to prostitution. Police officials issued citations to all women apprehended for disturbing the peace.   

Earlier, local traders repeatedly reported that women involved in prostitution activities began to gather near the railway station and bus stand at night.

Police officials have responded to these complaints intermittently, with Sunday's operation being conducted under the directive of Police station in-charge, Kundan Singh Rana. Despite strict action, many women fled upon sighting the police, while ten were successfully apprehended and escorted to the police station.

According to SHO Kundan Singh Rana, the detained women hail from various regions including Saharanpur, Meerut, Lucknow, Udham Singh Nagar, and Delhi, residing in areas such as Sidkul, Jwalapur, Bahadarabad, and Kankhal. Each of the ten has been cited for disturbing the peace.

Lewd gestures towards passersby

Rana further said that the accused women were observed making lewd gestures towards passersby. The police operation was conducted by the team comprising ASI Usha Dhyani, Head Constable Sharda, Constables Bharti Rawat, Anita, Beena, Ramesh, Satend, Jasveer, and Kuldeep, in a concerted effort to uphold law and order in the area.
