New Delhi: In a shocking incident that has sent ripples across the region, a 13-year-old girl in Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, was discovered to be seven months pregnant after enduring a year of sexual abuse at the hands of her grandfather. The horrifying revelation came to light when the girl, who lost both her parents, complained of stomach pain. Her concerned aunt took her to a local hospital, where doctors confirmed the pregnancy, exposing the terrible truth.

Disturbing discovery leads to grandfather's arrest

The accused, who had taken on the responsibility of caring for the orphaned girl after her parents passed away, has been arrested and is now in jail. The girl's mother had died shortly after giving birth, and her father succumbed to tuberculosis two years ago, leaving her in the care of her paternal grandfather. What should have been a safe haven turned into a nightmare, as the grandfather repeatedly assaulted the girl over the past year. The case came to the authorities' attention after the girl's aunt, alarmed by her condition, sought medical help.

Medical complications porevent immediate action

The situation is further complicated by the girl's precarious health. A panel of doctors has expressed concern over her low hemoglobin levels, deeming an abortion too dangerous at this stage. The medical team has advised against terminating the pregnancy, citing the severe risks involved. As a result, the case has been escalated to the High Court for further guidance on how to proceed.

Legal action and child welfare involvement

The Child Welfare Committee has taken a leading role in the case, with Chairman Abhishek Tyagi confirming the girl’s testimony that she was raped by her grandfather over the course of a year. The committee has submitted a detailed report to the High Court and is seeking legal advice on the next steps, given the girl's critical condition and advanced pregnancy. Additionally, a request for financial aid has been sent to the District Legal Services Authority to support the girl’s medical and psychological needs.

Case pending high court decision

As the legal proceedings unfold, the High Court is expected to provide directives on how to handle the pregnancy and ensure the girl's safety and well-being. Bahadurgarh police station in-charge, Arvind, confirmed that the accused grandfather has been jailed, and the investigation is ongoing.
