Haldwani violence mastermind, Abdul Malik, apprehended in Delhi

The police announced on Saturday that Abdul Malik, the alleged mastermind behind the violence in Haldwani, Uttarakhand, has been taken into custody in Delhi. The demolition of an illegally constructed madrasa in the Banbhoolpura area caused violence to break out in Haldwani. When the locals opposed the migration, there were violent altercations, stone-pelting, and burning.

According to officials, the violence claimed six lives and injured over a hundred, including media representatives and law enforcement officers. Abdul Malik was the madrasa's builder and fiercely resisted its removal, according to the police. In a separate court filing, his spouse contested the demolition notice issued by the municipal corporation.

Malik's attorney had entered an anticipatory bail application in a Haldwani court earlier in the day. February 27 is the day set aside for the bail plea hearing. The attorney questioned the rationale for designating Malik as the principal defendant. He asserted that Malik had been gone from the region for two or three days before the incident and was not a part of the violence.
