New Delhi: A disturbing incident involving harassment on the streets of Haldwani has brought attention to the safety and security of women in the city. A woman, who shared her experience on social media, recounted a frightening encounter with a group of men who tried to block her way while she was returning from a movie with a female friend.

Harassment took place on Mukhani Road, Haldwani

The woman described the incident that occurred on Mukhani Road near Sacred Heart School in Haldwani. She stated that two cars, one black Scorpio (license plate T0724UK4618C) and a white Hyundai i20 Nios (license plate UK04AK1928), were involved. The cars, filled with around 10 men, attempted to obstruct her path for approximately 25 minutes.

According to her account, the black Scorpio was ahead of them, deliberately opening its doors to prevent them from passing, while the white i20 Nios followed closely behind, trapping them in a dangerous situation. The harassment escalated when the men blocked them entirely by opening all the doors of the cars. Fortunately, a man on a scooter appeared, attempting to pass through, which provided the woman and her friend with the opportunity to escape.

However, the relief was short-lived. The woman explained that just minutes later, the men tried to block their way again, putting them in a similarly terrifying situation.

Woman seeks help from Uttarakhand Police

In her post, the woman directed her concerns to the Uttarakhand Police, questioning the state of peace and security in Haldwani. "Is this how peace and security is being maintained in the city?" she asked. The woman urged the police to take strict action against the culprits to ensure the safety and security of women living in Haldwani.

This incident has sparked outrage among the local community, highlighting the growing problem of hooliganism in the city and raising serious concerns about the safety of women in public spaces.

Police says action is being taken

The Nainital Police are actively involved in legal actions following the Haldwani violence, including the arrest of individuals and the registration of FIRs against both named and unknown persons for their involvement in the unrest. They are also ensuring stringent measures against any attempts to disrupt communal harmony via social media, as indicated by their warning after lifting the internet suspension.
