Varanasi court on Friday has given the permission for the scientific survey of Gyanvapi mosque complex excluding the sealed area. The mosque is located near Kashi Vishwanath Temple.

Hailing the order, Vishnu Shankar Jain, representing the Hindu side in the Gyanvapi mosque case said, “I have been informed that my application has been approved and the court has directed to conduct an ASI survey of the Gyanvapi mosque complex, excluding the Wazu tank which has been sealed. I think the survey can be completed within 3 to 6 months.”

Last year, a videography survey of Gyanvapi mosque revealed that there is a ‘Shivling’ present inside the premises of mosque complex, on which the Muslim side stated that it was merely a structure of a fountain. However, the petition filed by the Hindu side in the case has sought a direction for the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) for the entire mosque complex.

Conditions for the ASI survey

Varanasi Court has directed the ASI to conduct the study between 8 am to 12 noon and have directed to produce the report by August 4. Apart from this, the court also clarified that no restrictions on Namaz and no damage should happen in the Gyanvapi mosque.

Turning point for the case

Advocate Subhash Nandan Chaturvedi, representing Hindu side in the Gyanvapi case, says, “Our application for the ASI survey has been accepted. It’s a turning point in the case.”
