Gyanvapi Case: In a comprehensive survey conducted by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on the Gyanvapi mosque complex, astounding discoveries have been brought to light. The findings include fragments of a broken Shiva linga, terracotta objects portraying various deities, and a trove of ancient coins.

Terracotta Treasures and Deity Figurines

Within the western wall area of the premises, ASI's scientific survey uncovered terracotta objects, including figurines depicting deities such as Lord Hanuman and Lord Ganesha. The debris yielded fragments of sculptures showcasing diverse deities like Shiva linga, Vishnu, Krishna, and more. The report elucidates the diverse range of findings, from male and female figures to bricks, tiles, and sling balls.

Glass Artifacts and Ancient Coins

Remarkably, the survey identified two glass objects—a pendant and a broken Shiva linga—adding a layer of historical richness to the discoveries. Coins from different historical periods were also retrieved from the site. The assortment includes Persian-inscribed coins issued by Shah Alam, a hoard of 64 British-India coins, featuring East India Company, Queen Victoria, Edward VII, and George V. Additionally, a corroded copper coin of Madhav Rao Scindia from the 17th century was among the numismatic treasures.

Maulana Khalid Rasheed's Response

In the wake of the ASI's release of the 839-page survey report, Maulana Khalid Rasheed Firangi Mahali, the chairperson of the Islamic Centre of India, asserted the need for a thorough examination before forming opinions. Emphasizing the ongoing legal proceedings, Maulana Khalid Rasheed stated that the Muslim side would scrutinize the report meticulously before making any statements.

ASI's Revelation on Gyanvapi Mosque Complex

The ASI's report sheds light on the historical evolution of the Gyanvapi mosque complex, indicating that a pre-existing structure was partially demolished and repurposed in the 17th century. Scientific studies cited in the report suggest the presence of a substantial Hindu temple before the current structure's construction.

This unveiling of ancient artifacts and the nuanced history of the site adds a compelling chapter to Varanasi's cultural tapestry, sparking curiosity about the rich heritage encapsulated within the Gyanvapi mosque complex.
