Gujarat News: In a shocking incident in Rajkot, Gujarat, nine members of a family attempted suicide by consuming poison. Their intention was to end their lives due to severe financial distress. However, when their health began to deteriorate, they took the crucial step of contacting the police and calling for an ambulance, which led to their timely hospitalization. Currently, all individuals are receiving treatment, and their conditions have stabilized.Financial crisis drives family to desperationThe family, which operates a jewelry business, was facing overwhelming financial pressure. The head of the family had loaned ₹2 crore to a group of businessmen, who failed to repay the debt. This ongoing financial strain compelled the jeweler and his family to consider suicide as a last resort. “When we saw no way out, we decided to end our lives together,” stated a family member. Fortunately, their decision took a turn when their health deteriorated, prompting them to seek help.Police investigation underwayFollowing the incident, the police registered a case based on the complaint from the head of the family. The incident occurred in the Gundawadi area, and Inspector Mayurdhwaj Sarvaiya from Bhaktinagar police station reported, “Last year, the Adesara family sold three kilograms of gold jewelry worth approximately ₹2 crore to two businessmen from Mumbai, who have yet to fulfill their payment obligations.” This unresolved financial issue has pushed the family into a dire situation.Family in distressAmong those who consumed poison were an eight-year-old child and a 67-year-old woman, highlighting the devastating impact of financial stress on the entire family unit. Ketan Adesara, a family member involved in the jewelry business, expressed their plight: “The Mumbai traders had assured us they would pay for the jewelry by Diwali 2023, but they havent made any payments. Our financial situation has become so critical that we are unable to meet our bank loan installments.”Betrayal and financial hardshipThe jeweler recounted his ordeal with the businessmen, stating, “Initially, they kept their payments regular, winning my trust. However, they began to default, borrowing jewelry worth ₹2 crore without repaying. Faced with this financial crisis, we felt we had no other option.”
