In a remarkable display of community spirit and cooperation, local Muslims, alongside a team from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), successfully rescued 29 stranded pilgrims from a flooded causeway in Bhavnagar, Gujarat. The overnight operation lasted approximately eight hours and involved multiple rescue efforts.

The group of pilgrims, hailing from Tamil Nadu, was en route to Somnath after visiting the Nishkalank Mahadev temple. Their journey took a dangerous turn when their bus became stranded on the flooded causeway, prompting a swift response from local residents and emergency services.

Innovative rescue efforts

Local Muslims took the initiative by arriving at the stranded bus in a mini-truck. In a daring effort to evacuate the passengers, they broke the rear window of the bus to facilitate the transfer of the 27 pilgrims. Despite their good intentions, the mini-truck itself became stranded on the causeway during the rescue.

Undeterred, the rescuers quickly arranged for a larger truck to safely transport all 29 individuals to safety. This collaborative effort not only highlights the resilience of the local community but also emphasizes the importance of unity in times of crisis.

The successful rescue operation has been met with gratitude from the pilgrims, who are now safe and sound, thanks to the heroic actions of both local residents and the NDRF team.
