New Delhi: In a shocking case of honor killing, a 24-year-old Hindu man was brutally murdered for marrying a Muslim woman in Devbhoomi Dwarka district, Gujarat. This gruesome act was perpetrated by the woman's relatives, according to police reports. The incident, which unfolded in Shedhakhai village of Bhanvad taluka on Saturday evening, has led to the arrest of six individuals, including the woman's brothers.
Deputy Superintendent of Police Hardik Prajapati revealed that the victim, Yagnik Dudhrejia, was attacked by his wife Ramza’s family, who opposed their interfaith marriage. The First Information Report (FIR) details how Yagnik, a resident of Shedhakhai, fell in love with Ramza, who came from a Muslim family in the same village. Defying her family’s objections, the couple eloped and married in court.
After the birth of their daughter in June, Yagnik and Ramza returned to their village, hoping for acceptance. However, Ramza’s family continued to reject the marriage. On Saturday evening, Yagnik left his home with his friend, Hardeep Singh Vajubha, when they were intercepted by Ramza’s relatives. The accused then violently assaulted Yagnik with iron pipes, axes, and knives.
The attack left Yagnik Dudhrejia gravely injured. He was rushed to a local hospital and later transferred to a government hospital in Jamnagar, where doctors pronounced him dead. Following a complaint from Yagnik's mother, a case was filed at the Bhanvad police station. The suspects, identified as Sajid Detha, Salim Detha, Juma Detha, Ahmed Detha, Usman Musa, and Hothi Kasam, have been apprehended.
