Gujrat: A huge blaze engulfed a firecracker factory on the outskirts of Deesa town in Banaskantha district of Gujarat on Tuesday, police informed. In the accident, 17 people lost their lives miserably and dozens of others were injured seriously. Police added that following the fire, there were some explosions, because of which many areas of the factory collapsed. As per the police, numerous labourers are suspected to be trapped under the rubble.
"Firefighters of Deesa municipality are conducting rescue operations to rescue people trapped in the rubble," said inspector Vijay Chaudhary of Deesa Rural Police Station. Five workers were killed on the spot. Banaskantha Collector Mihir Patel told, "This morning we got news of a huge explosion in the industrial complex of Deesa.
The fire brigade reached the site and put out the flames. Five workers were killed on the spot. Four injured workers were shifted to various hospitals. The explosion was so massive that the factory slab collapsed. We are conducting a search operation to save anyone trapped under the wreckage," he added.
Three individuals lost their lives in the blaze and six injured were taken to the civil hospital for treatment, a district administration official reported. Officials are attempting to ascertain the cause of the fire.
