New Delhi: In the wake of the Lok Sabha elections, Uttar Pradesh is preparing for by-elections on ten assembly seats. This development follows the victory of nine MLAs from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the main opposition Samajwadi Party (SP) in various Lok Sabha constituencies. Most of these MLAs have resigned from their assembly seats to assume their new roles in the Lok Sabha. Additionally, the Sishamau assembly seat is expected to become vacant soon.
With the central government now operational post-elections, all eyes are on Uttar Pradesh. The state, holding the highest number of parliamentary seats in India, is gearing up for by-elections in the coming months. The significant question looming is whether the political alliance between Akhilesh Yadav and Rahul Gandhi will continue to play a role in the state's political landscape.
During the Lok Sabha elections, nine MLAs from the BJP and SP secured seats in the Parliament. To retain their new positions, these MLAs have resigned from their assembly seats. Additionally, the Sishamau assembly seat will become vacant as its current MLA, Irfan Solanki, faces disqualification after receiving a seven-year jail sentence for an arson case.
SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav, who is now the MP for Kannauj, has vacated his Karhal assembly seat to focus on his parliamentary responsibilities. He won his seat by a significant margin against BJP's Subhrat Pathak. Similarly, SP MLAs Awadhesh Prasad from Milkipur (Ayodhya) and Lalji Verma have resigned from their assembly seats to assume their new roles in Parliament.
The upcoming by-elections will be a critical test for political alliances in Uttar Pradesh. The collaboration between Akhilesh Yadav and Rahul Gandhi, which had garnered much attention in previous elections, remains a point of speculation. As the state prepares for these pivotal by-elections, the strategies and alliances formed will significantly influence the political dynamics in Uttar Pradesh.
