In a dramatic turn of events in Sheopur, Madhya Pradesh, the family members of a bride are accused of abducting and assaulting the groom’s two brothers-in-law following an elopement and marriage at an Arya Samaj temple on Monday.
Narendra Dhakad and Ranjana Dhakad, residents of Garhi Gohara village, had been in a relationship for two years. Their decision to elope and marry at an Arya Samaj temple on August 31 has sparked significant controversy. Despite their prior complaints about threats from the bride’s family, police inaction left them vulnerable.
Post-wedding, Ranjana sought protection from the Sheopur Superintendent of Police (SP), claiming that her family opposed their union and that they were in imminent danger. She also accused the Vijaypur police of harassment.
In response to the marriage, the bride’s relatives allegedly kidnapped the groom’s two brothers-in-law from their homes. The captives were reportedly subjected to severe physical abuse. The groom’s family promptly alerted the authorities, leading to a swift police intervention. The two brothers-in-law were rescued from the bride’s family’s residence.
Following the rescue, the victims reported the abduction, captivity, and assault to the police. The Vijaypur police have confirmed that they are taking action against the accused. However, the couple's plea for protection, submitted to the SP on September 1, went unaddressed, forcing them to remain in hiding from the bride’s relatives due to continued fear.
