UP Crime News: In a heart-wrenching case that unfolded in Greater Noida, a stepfather has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for repeatedly sexually assaulting his stepdaughter over a span of four years. The incidents, occurring between 2014 and 2019 in Noida Phase-3, were brought to light when the victim, then 14, mustered the courage to confide in her mother.

Took advantage of wife's absence

The conviction was handed down by the POCSO court on Thursday, marking a significant victory for justice in what has been described as a harrowing ordeal for the young girl. The accused, who lived with the victim and her family, took advantage of his wife's absence for work to perpetrate these heinous acts.

What did the victim say?

According to the Special Public Prosecutor JP Bhati, the victim disclosed the abuse in May 2019. "He would send my brothers away and assault me, threatening to sell me to a brothel if I ever spoke out," she stated in court. This threat was part of a pattern of intimidation that also included threats to harm her family.

Following the complaint lodged by the victim's mother at Phase-3 police station, an FIR was registered under relevant sections of the IPC and the POCSO Act. The accused was arrested promptly on May 18, 2019, and has since been in judicial custody, culminating in his sentencing this week.

This case underscores the vulnerability of children within their own homes, highlighting the need for vigilance and support systems for children who might be suffering in silence. The judgment serves as a reminder of the legal system's commitment to protecting minors from such egregious violations.

The sentencing of the stepfather to 20 years in prison sends a strong message about the consequences of such heinous acts. It also brings a measure of closure for the victim, whose bravery in coming forward has not only secured justice for herself but potentially prevented further crimes.
