On Tuesday, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari expressed concern over shrewd politicians seeking to maintain their ties to the current ruling party, claiming that this ‘deterioration in ideology’ was detrimental to democracy.

Additionally, he stated that while some leaders continue to uphold their principles, their numbers are progressively dwindling.
"I always say this jokingly that no matter which party's government it is, one thing is sure that the one who does good work never gets respect and those who do bad work are never punished," Gadkari said, without taking names.

He made the statement while speaking at an event. Gadkari further added that leaders keep coming and going, but the work they have done for the people of their respective constituencies is what ultimately earns them respect. Publicity and popularity are important, but the work they have done in their respective constituencies is more important than what they say in Parliament.

At the function, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor of the Lok Sabha and BJD member Sasmit Patra of the Rajya Sabha received the best parliamentarian of the year awards.

The Best Debutant Politician awards went to Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas of the CPI(M) and Lok Sabha MP Danish Ali, who has been suspended by the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP).
